Does It Work?
Reported by Dave Leval, ABC News
It's sometimes the price we pay for a night out on the town, but there may be new hope for dealing with hangovers. A product called "Chaser" claims it can eliminate hangovers caused by a night of overindulging.
The makers of Chaser advise drinkers to take two pills before their first drink, then two more two to three hours later – or after your fifth or sixth drink.
ABC7 got Cory Sowders of Cape Coral to test the product. He started the test with a chilled shot of Captain Morgan's rum, which was quickly followed by a pitcher of beer and a shot of what's known as "liquid codeine."
Over the next 45 minutes, Sowders downed another pitcher of beer and two more shots. Normally, he knows what all of that means the next morning.
"If I drink pretty good, I'll probably feel bad all day. Take Tylenol all day," Sowders said.
But this time around, he says he felt fine.
"No hangover, no side effects, no headaches, nothing," he said.
Each Chaser pill contains calcium carbonate – which pharmacists say helps absorb some of the alcohol before it enters the bloodstream. Calcium carbonate is what makes up the antacid Tums.
"I thought I was going to feel something. I didn't think a little pill could keep a hangover from happening, but I'm convinced," Sowder said.

A recent survey shows it takes an average of just 3.2 drinks to cause
hangover symptoms. For 10 percent of people it takes one or two.
What causes hangovers? The main culprit is congeners.
